Nuworks is an independent, not-for-profit community theatre. They base their collaborative work on the style and conventions of Epic Theatre (Brecht and Piscator), writing most of their own plays and music. Nuworks regularly tours internationally, performing at festivals such as the Edinburgh and Adelaide Fringe, where they have received awards and positive reviews. We are honoured that they have chosen Holybourne Theatre as part of their 2026 tour.
A Punk Opera

This explosive Punk Opera is a radical reimagining of Bertolt Brecht’s The Three Penny Opera, set in 1970s and '80s Camden—the birthplace of British punk.

Experience the raw politics and defiant spirit of the era, defined by social unrest and the "shitsdom" under Margaret Thatcher. Following the morally bankrupt characters of John Gay's original The Beggar's Opera, this production features a hybrid soundtrack blending parodies of The Sex Pistols, The Kinks, and Nick Cave with new compositions.

This Machine Kills Fascists

Experience, an electrifying stage spectacle inspired by the life and uncompromising work of the legendary American folk singer and civil rights activist, Woody Guthrie.

In the epic style of Nuworks Theatre, this production is a powerful protest song dressed in theatrical form, offering a faithful portrayal of Guthrie’s commitment to the working class and civil rights. The show explores his passionate disdain for politicians and corporations, culminating in the powerful story behind his famous 'war cry': "This machine kills fascists."
